Last week saw a group of our Prefects and Head Students, together with Miss Carney, lead the school's annual celebration of International Women's Day. Through a series of Collective Worships, focused on the theme of Equity, and focusing in on building an alliance to work towards achieving equality, the students led the community in recognising the achievements of significant women. This included a focus on Dr Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, the first female Doctor and Mayor in the UK, alongside the first female US Vice President, Kamala Harris and Suffragettes such as Emmeline Pankhurst and Suffragist, Millicent Fawcett. The students also interviewed some of our male teachers about their female role models, and introduced an International Women's Day poetry competition, with prizes awarded to poems dedicated to women of influence in our students' lives. A positive and courageous presentation, focused on bringing our diverse community together.
