Design and Technology

We believe that the Design and Technology/cooking and nutrition play an important role in developing students into creative thinkers who can independently appreciate the value of each stage of the design process when problem solving and create design solutions that are realistic and innovative.

Drama

Welcome to the Drama department.

The world of Drama and Theatre is a pillar stone to the world that is Performing Arts. Drama is vital for communication and success in learning across all subjects and in the wider world; and our Drama curriculum reflects this. As our students journey through the Drama curriculum, they will learn to use Drama as a craft to question and challenge their perception of the world all while developing their emotional intelligence and how to express themselves with emotion and clarity.

Students will learn and develop the essential performance skills of communication, development of character, devising techniques, character and script analysis and ability to confidently apply a range of vocal and physical skills. In addition to these performance skills, our students will learn, develop and sharpen the essential skills of communication, creativity, collaboration, clarity of expression, autonomy, leadership and confidence.

English

Welcome to the English department.

The English Department is a place where students broaden their horizons – of literature, language, cultures, people and issues past and present. We want our students to be confident and successful communicators who can engage with a diverse range of people and in a broad range of circumstances – both during their time with us and in the years after. Not only this but we aim to help our students have the skills to carefully consider communication they read, hear or see and have strong critical literacy skills. In our range of literature studied, our students meet a wide and diverse range of characters from across the globe and we help them to meet these characters with empathy and understanding whilst also considering and analysing the writer’s craft. They will also consider a vast array of global, historical, cultural and personal issues in the literature that we study written by a diverse range of writers -further helping to enrich and diversify their understanding and education.

The pen is mightier than the sword – and we aim to help our students be mighty contributors to their world by helping them be the best that they can be in communication with and in their understanding of others.

French

Our French curriculum has been planned to ensure that students develop knowledge and skills throughout their experience of French to allow for progression, access to higher level courses at Key Stage 5 and get a deeper understanding of the world and the impact they can have on it in the future.

Heath and Social Care

Health and Social Care is a vocational subject that looks at the growth, development, health and wellbeing of individuals of all ages. Students are introduced to a variety of knowledge and skills needed to work in various care settings. Underpinning the qualification is a focus on person centred values and the rights of individuals. Health & Social care will equip students with sound specialist knowledge and skills for everyday use.

Music

Music the soundtrack to our lives. Music connects us through people and places in our ever-changing world. It is creative, collaborative, celebratory and challenging. At St. Auguustine’s, music brings our community together through the shared endeavours of: singing; ensemble playing; experimenting with the creative process; listening to friends and fellow students, and, of course, performing. The sheer joy of music-making can feed the soul of a school community, enriching each student while strengthening the shared bonds of support and trust which make a amazing school.
