In Art students learn through completing different projects each term. In the autumn term students respond to Yinka Shonibare’s Dysfunctional Family (1999) and design and make their own papier-mâché alien sculptures whilst exploring colour and pattern. In the spring term students develop their drawing skills and learn about identity and self-portraits looking at the work of Frida Kahlo. In the summer term students develop their knowledge of colour theory and respond to the work of Hundertwasser. They learn about architecture, landscape, and ecology and develop skills in painting. Students are encouraged to attend the Art Department outside of lesson time to develop their work and there is an Art Club after school on Mondays. In recent years Year 7 students have attended trips to The National Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery in support of their learning.
We look forward to welcoming you to St Augustine’s Art Department and hope you have fun learning in this subject.
