Our Church

The Church of St Augustine Kilburn

The Church of St Augustine Kilburn is an Anglo-Catholic Parish Church of the Church of England with proud tradition of serving its vibrant and diverse community with an active programme of worship and outreach. Founded in 1870, Consecrated in 1880 and affectionately known as ‘The Cathedral of North London’ is a Grade I listed building and a fine example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture.

The local community is vibrant and diverse, with the church welcoming worshippers from far and wide who are drawn to St Augustine’s long-established tradition of worship, mission and outreach in Kilburn, Maida Vale and the wider London area.

The Church serves as both the spiritual hub of both the local community and the two Federated Schools playing an active part in the daily lives of staff, students and parent/carers.

The whole school attends a service in church once a term while every Year Group attends and contributes to its own mass in Church during Michaelmass Term. Additional services in St Augustine’s church such as services of welcome for Years 7 and 12, Christingle service for Years 8, Ash Wednesday, Founder’s Day and Leavers’ Service add to the student’s spiritual nourishment and development.

Message from Fr. Amos Vicar and Chaplain for St Augustine’s Federated Schools:

“The visionary work-related curriculum, driven by the school’s Christian vision, is instrumental in sowing aspiration and self-belief in pupils in this inner-city school. Pupils respond powerfully to the school’s Christian vision by striving to be ‘the best we can be.” (SIAMS November 2022)

In November 2022 our Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools (SIAMS) found us to be “Excellent” in all areas of spiritual, moral and pastoral leadership. On that basis, I can confidently invite you to join us in the conviction that your wish for your child is the same as our mission at St Augustine’s.

The whole basis of the Christian faith is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God was born to live and die as a man so that we may join him in his risen life, in living a life as God our Heavenly Father always intended and wishes us to live. At St Augustine’s we not only learn in order to achieve nationally excellent exam results but to live life the best we can. So again, as the SIAMS report states, “the education provided is holistic and meticulously meets the needs of a diverse range of learners.” No two people are the same, nor any two students. This is recognised at St Augustine’s CE High School and so it is my pleasure, as both the Parish Priest and the chair of Governors, to welcome you to join us, so you too can “be the best you can be.”

God bless,
Fr. Amos
